So couple weeks ago I spoke about the musical things that people are doing on that "next level", Today it's all about the reading, and no not from your computer.. Actual books and magazines.

First up Moncle magazine, when i first had a glance at it "i kinda thought it was something my dad should be reading " but after reading the first 5 pages i was like wow this is actually a really well put together piece of work crossing global affairs/business/culture and design, I don't think any other magazine is coming close to it on content. Come to think of it I am my fathers son soo... I guess my dad should be reading it. Oh and credit where credit is due thanks kerry for putting me on.

This man is soo far beyond the word cool, I don't think I can sum him up nearly as well as i should so read some of his stuff here and find out for yourself.

last up Kinokuniya this place is great for days when you just wanna chill and read books all day, I have a wish list of title's now that i want. It grows every time i go in there, there website isn't much but when your in sydney it's definitely a must.

Sunday was the Melbourne Musem Of Print's open day, looks like they had a pretty good turn out. If you don't know about the musem read more about it here. Very cool that these guys are keeping the foundation of design and typography alive, hopefully everyone went to support.

So things haven't been going the greatest for me as of late (i won't bring the mood down). As they say tho "the day is brightest in the morning"....... Umm... Sorry i don't know that was some weird George bush-ism you know like the one where he said " if you fool me once, shame on you... if you fool me twice,... if you fool me once i can't get fooled again." GENIUS!

OK sorry back to the point. Basically what I'm trying to say is that even tho things aren't going the greatest right now, there is allot of positive and great things happening around us all, Within "the arts" especially.. So I'll break it down categoricaly.

First up music.

I came across this podcast a few months back, Dex digital is homie's name. I kind of like the fact that he rambles about things on his mind before and after the show which is the basis or the theme of the show. It makes for good listening when your at work doing the mundane grind. He seems like a pretty interesting dude, the kind you'd have round to your place for dinner..

Say no more this dude is fire!! he is Eryka bahdu's first signing to her new label Control Freaq Records. He hails from the Infamous Magnolia projects in New Orleans but he's spent a few years floating round detroit with the likes of Guilty, Denine porter etc. I think the dopest thing bout this dude is that he isn't conforming to the stat quoe of hip hop, He' just doing it his way.

So I was just in the middle of my first post in quite some time... when boom computer shuts down, SO frustrating! I was so positive before. Sorry let me try this again (deep breaths).

Right so what i was saying before was that after my long hiatus I've finally got a functioning computer, i hope... Basically it's the laptop version of this Lil beauty pictured below

envious i know. Ok so it's nearly been 5 months since my last contribution, so i've decided to make this my quarterly report of things i've been doing or things i've been digging recently. First up is this rad video i saw the other day. Not sure if it's legit, but dope none the less.

Next is Ways & Means these guys are so onpoint with their whole approach to putting things out, what put me on was the kinfolk bike/bar & lounge it's one of the projects they've done in conjuction with the kinfolk bicycle co. It's prolly best if you just read about them for yourself check the links.

Homewares and getting domestic, I think it's some weird wanting to get old type of vibe... I don't know, but whatever it is i wish i could buy everything in this shop i ride past everymorning on my way to work. It's called Great Dane the guy who runs it does anuall trips to scandanavia to source new and original peices.

animals are my new favorites, ever since I adopted myself a mini tiger i can'tget enough... Kerry you should get one of these guys, look he's even waving to you.

So i know i'm a lil late with the merry xmas n happy new year n all that... Alot has happened in the past few months unfortunately my laptop has been out of action for quite some time, hence no blog action for a minute. I'm posting this from a friends computer and the pictures are from a few outings with another friends new slr camera... i had to post something i feel like i was just getting into the swing of things before my lil hiatis.. So here we are again, more information from the super power we've all come to love, the internet. ONLY is a label based in the west side of Manhattan, ny ny. There roots stem from skateboarding & graffiti, like most kids these days there getting there hustle on. So why haven't i been reading there blog or sporting there gears... Am i that late to the game have i been sleeping that hard, schucks i think it's sad to say but YES I have... Apologies to these boys and all the other bazillions of people i have been and prolly (yes i said prolly, p.s i love his blog title check it out) still am sleeping on. Basically what i'm saying is that I will try to make that extra bit of effort to post new product, blogs, and interesting things in general. this hat is pretty money nice colour and a snap back to boot... This book looks fairly interesting, it is a collection of interviews with twenty-plus contemporary typeface designers, graffiti writers, and lettering artists around the world. The book is introduced with a comprehensive essay charting the history of graffiti, its relation to type design, and how the two practices relate in the wider context of lettering. If i'd have two peg myself interest wise thise is exactly where i'd fit. I think i might be putting this one on my chrissy wish list.

I've always loved hats when i was a kid I actually use to sleep in my hat's. I remember my mom begging me to throw out this one Detroit lions starter snap back, you know the ones with the city name in a regular times new roman style font and the team name all G'ed out calligraphy styles...

My new house mate came home yesterday with some goodies from this cool lil store. So i jumped on the tinterweb to check it out, very impressed. they've got it all from mega old signage and printing press letters to women's wear like Basike & Gorman. i think i might be spending some hard earned cash there this weekend. the Old signage was seriously bananas it actually just reminded me of this blog i use to read... we've been m.i.a. from the blog for a good few months now because it's been all about trying to get our summer season production done (we cut it ourselves) and get our winter samples done and shot before this week.

We couldn't have made it out alive without the kindness of the others in the studio. We took over every flat surface, made a mess of everything, snapped at people and through it all the lovely studio friends made us food, made us laugh and even learned some new skills on the cutting machines.

Thanks for the late nights.

I've only recently discovered the work of Nagi Noda and I feel like I have been seriously missing out on it all these years. Her bio lists a huge breadth of work in all kinds of mediums and collaborations with everyone from Nike to the White Stripes. She's also recently started a clothing label with artist Mark Ryden and who knows what may come of the combination of those two creative minds.

My favourite stuff though is the hair hats

But you have most likely seen some of her work for Nike

And this series that is such a simple idea but is so well executed

I think most of the appeal for me is in the approach. The ideas are all really simple, but then they are taken to the edge of reason and produced with such precision that you start to look at it like it's a regular occurence. This japanese music video is one of my favourites

Undr Crwn have just delivered some new gears and it's taken me right back to my youth. Growing up I always wanted to be down with the boys, I remember going to the corner store to get a new pack of starter cards with my bro and my dad on saturday mornings. So being in Windsor, Michigan was the closest thing we had to a home team and 1992, 1993 was a great time to be a fan because of these guys.

They only played together for a short time, and there was so much controversy about taking payments and what not, but seriously where would the game be without them. Even down to the fashion of the game, these kids were the first to get out there in baggy shorts. And Undr Crwn is bringing it all back with this tee.
And for all the Kentucky Wildcats fans out there, don't mean to open fresh wounds, but you will all remember the final 2.1 sec of this game

Nothing like getting stuff in the mail. I got to the shop this morning and had this waiting for me.

And inside these packages, probably the most diverse range of things I could receive in one day. First up is a pair of roller skates, for next week. Gonna be so much fun, we're having some wholesome birthday fun.

Next is probably my favourite from this trio. A surprise package from the multi talented Luke Perillo. He's working on some stuff for an in store thing later this year and he sent through his first sample.

And finally is a package from Via Alley, their new publishing arm VA Editions has produced this little beauty. A colouring book for kids with images supplied by some of the best and brightest talents working today, including beci orpin, mike giant and perks and mini. Try staying in these lines....

Don't you love when you rediscover an old favourite? Liberation from Outkast's Aquemini album was on high rotation for me way back when. Before the luxury of Ipod's I was rockin' it on my discman with those badass dual shock headphones that vibrate along to the bass.

anyway, our staple delivery arrived and with one of the prints, managed to bring out the ocd in me all over again. The print below is the lyrics from Big Rube's guest spot on the song, so simple, speaks volumes.

One of the guys in the studio picked up a sports illustrated from 1992 a few months back and we finally got the scanner working so I can share some of it with you. It's pretty funny to look back at a magazine that's about 15 years old now and see what kind of insights they had.

This is a little table they made called grading the future legends. highlights are when they say of andre agassi and evander holyfield that they lack performance and marketability, if they only knew...
The mag also has some crazy ads, there is one ad for hulk hogan's deoderant, and the rest are all booze, cigarettes and condoms. 1992 was loose.

Loic Prigent is the french director behind two of the best fashion documentaries I've seen in a long time. I've never been that into Marc Jacobs as a designer or Louis Vuitton as a brand, but the documentary is a really interesting look at the process it takes to produce both brands. Even if you don't like it, you can't argue with the reach both of these brands have. Loic's documentary is great because he is seems slightly removed from fashion and can a offer a new perspective.

The video is Loic's other fashion mini series that takes a look at what it takes to produce a haute couture chanel collection. The whole thing is up on you tube and this is the perfect kind of weather to sit back and watch it. These ladies are the real deal, good watching even if chanel isn't your thing.

Theo Jansen is a genius.
For the past 10 years he has been creating new nature, with plastic of all things. His creatures are called strandbeests and he envisions them roaming the beach in herds, surviving on their own. It's people like him that I find really fascinating, he's spent a good portion of his life on these things that have no real discernible purpose, surely the principles can be applied to lots of other mediums, but that is not his goal. Martin Waugh - Liquid Sculptures
This series takes tremendous planning and precision, I think I love these because there is absolutely no way I'd have the patience to do it. Check more here.
Bill Sullivan - 3 situations
Bill set up 3 different situations, one at a subway turnstile, one in front of elevators at a department store and in the last one the people are all sitting for those street portraits where they draw your characature for 10 bucks. I love these. Read more about his concept and check the rest of the pictures in the series here.

Amanda Maxwell
This picture is one of my all time favourites. The horse looks totally complicit, and there's something about the light. Check it out in real life at Utopian Slumps until 22nd of December, Amanda is part of a group show with Conor O'Brien and Thomas Jeppe. Details here.

SO this is probably the best ipod speaker system out right now.. My boy put me on so i thought i'd share the love.. With all the bike craze that's going down round this time of year (dope weather).. This is definetly on my things to cop list. It fit's any ipod that uses a regular docking sytem so that pretty much everyone, but it hooks in to your sport bottle holder so you can bang out tunes while cruise. It's prolly way safer than having actual earphones in. sweet so all i need now is an ipod that works.. HA!

But no these are from kerry she's over in paris for the week before she shoots off to Barcelona for this years Bread and Butter. this is just a few shots she took before her camera died it's Zurick airport... Niceness.. I've asked her to be my eyes and ears so hopefully will have a few more updates in the coming weeks.

Im a huge fan of all there works and i'm stoked that they were all able to contribute designs for our first birthday this Thursday. Seriously you need to come down and peep all the work some very nice work from a whole slew of dope talented kids got down for this so hopefully you can get down for them. this is just some of the internationals, the locals killed it just as hard. one of the bags will be printing for this years stencil festival. should turn out pretty sweet.

Spraying like 600 piece sets of jewelery for Cybele's show up in Sydney Nyssa Marrow designed these.. Keep your eyes peeled they should be hitting stores soon.

Opening of underneath Flinders st station, it's funny cause i saw this stuff up for like 4 weeks before the actual opening.

Ev stopped by with his new bike... Man this thing is dope, I took it for a quick spin and im hooked.
Jose Parla show last night @ autopsy.. Dude is amazing the way he layers up the work is crazy. He sold a fair few of them considering the hefty price tags. I think the one he's standing in front of (he's the dude with the black jacket beard and the hat) was like $33.000. So dope.. i only wish i had mad stacks to throw around like that.

I usualy only read magazines and blogs but one of the only books i've read of my own free will was slaughter house five. I loved it, there's a good article about him in the new york times i suggest you go and read it.

No comply opening @ fed square a different atmosphere to Revs not sure how smooth it was tho..
Just last friday everfresh studio got loose up @ Wooden shadow, this was huge so many people.

That's not even all of them ther was plastic pimps, ben frost, London police and flying fortress but i missed it... and i can't remeber who showed at Outre. Any way im sure there's still plenty more to come.
